Flooding occurs when too much water from a source (such as precipitation, glaciers melting, groundwater) overflows its boundaries and submerges or covers an area of land. This can happen over a period of several days and weeks, or a matter of a few hours.
It can cause much damage. Loss of homes, electricity, homes for animals, destruction of buildings, land, pollution, lives (animal and human), plants, etc. People have to evacuate, animals and plants can drown, and property and livestock is lost. It's not a pretty sight either.
